Deciding when and where to get holiday gifts for your friends and family is a little challenging this year. Golden businesses are battling limited number of shoppers allowed in the stores at one time, the uncertainty of future restrictions, and fears about virus transmission to their staff and patrons — all while also trying to make sure they’re bringing in enough money to continue to stay open. You can help take a little weight off of their shoulders if you shop local for your holiday presents.
Many retailers around town have online shops, offer phone purchases with pick up, or are open during the week so that you can do your shopping without having to worry too much about crowds. With added sanitizer availability, cleaning routines, and social distancing practices, they’re doing their best to create an environment that allows customers to feel comfortable shopping, so it’s our turn to do our best to help support them.
If you only want to do your shopping online this year, you aren’t alone. Many people aren’t interested in the in-person experience. You can still support Golden businesses from the comfort of your own home. Your dollar means much more to a local business than a mega corporation, so instead of using Amazon, try to find a Golden retailer with an online store that carries the same product.
Even with the adjustments to make shopping locally easier, more packages will be circulating than in previous years. If you want to avoid the headache of a delayed gift, get your shopping and shipping done early. The early bird will also be able to avoid the crowds and gets first pick on the best presents!
Supporting local business has a positive impact on Golden. It helps boost the local economy, employs other residents, and gives you the opportunity to support local entrepreneurs. Please consider doing some (if not all!) of your holiday shopping in town as a gift to your retailers this year.
Not sure what to buy or where to look? Good To Be Golden will be putting together Golden Gift Guides with items from shops and restaurants all over town. Check back weekly to read the newest guide.
