Many spots around town offer maps to prepare you for your journey, but the American Alpine Club & Library are great resources for a little more in-depth planning of a climbing adventure. The library is currently closed to the public due to the pandemic, but it’s home to one of the world’s finest collections of mountain-related artifacts, archives, rare books, maps, and media. The library contains more than 50,000 books and all the information on mountain history, mountain culture, climbing routes, and more. Staff and volunteers can assist club members with research and trip planning, and members may check out materials by mail.
Housed in the same building, the Colorado Mountain Club is the state’s leading organization dedicated to outdoor adventure, recreation, conservation, and education for novices and experts alike. In addition to the guided trips and classes available, the club has also published over 60 guidebooks so you can take on the Colorado wilderness.
