Shopping locally is more important than ever this year. Supporting local businesses has a positive impact on Golden. It helps boost the local economy, employs other residents, and allows us to keep the small town charm that we all love. Please consider doing some (if not all!) of your holiday shopping in Golden as a gift to your retailers this year.
To make it easier to support your local business community, we’re putting together six Golden Gift Guides. First up: Kids & Teens! If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the young ones in your life, here are a few suggestions from some local Golden businesses.
Games & Puzzles from Golden Goods
Golden Goods is well known for their toys, games, and puzzles for kids of all ages. Encourage creativity with craft sets, further an interest in science with Scientific Discovery kits, test their skills with puzzles, or bring the whole family together with a fun game for all. With walls completely filled with games and activities, you’ll have plenty to choose from at Golden Goods.
Treats from Golden Sweets
Teenagers can be hard to buy for, but if yours has a sweet tooth, pick up some treats from Golden Sweets. This Washington Ave. candy and ice cream shop carries delicious truffles, chocolates, covered pretzels, year-round ice cream, and more. Either purchase some holiday favorites or get a gift card and let them decide.
Knit Colorado Hats from Bumps & Bundles
Keep the heads of the children in your life warm with a knit Colorado hat from Bumps & Bundles. Since they’re a maternity and children’s consignment shop, you can complete the entire outfit for newborns up to 5T with some of the other stylish, popular name-brand clothing on the racks.
Stuffed Chicks from the Golden History Museum Gift Shop
After taking a stroll to visit and feed the live chickens at the Golden History Park, stop by the Golden History Museum gift shop (they have limited hours on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for in-person shopping) to pick up a cuddly stuffed animal version to remember them by.
Private Climbing Lessons with Golden Mountain Guides
A day out with a guide is one of the best ways to learn to climb, so gift your teen a private half-day with Golden Mountain Guides. The trip is 100% customizable and a great way to either learn how to climb or to practice single pitch climbing. Digital gift cards for the half-day excursions can be purchased by calling 702-598-2864.
Lazy One Pajamas from The Red Wagon
Bed time is better when you’re excited about your pajamas! Find fun children’s PJs or infant onesies at The Red Wagon that perfectly match the personality of the wearer. Buy one for every child in the family to make sure that everyone has the coziest holiday season yet.
Ticket to Ride from the Colorado Railroad Museum
Bring the fun of the Colorado Railroad Museum home with Alan R. Moon’s Ticket to Ride! In this cross-country train adventure game, players collect cards of various types of train cars that enable them to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America. The longer the routes, the more points you earn, so climb aboard for some railroading fun and adventure. (Recommended for ages 8 and up.)
Earth Treks Monthly Student EFT Membership
Encourage your child or teen to work out some energy and practice their climbing skills at Earth Treks with a special youth membership pass that includes full gym access, classes, and yoga. This pass is specifically for kids under 18 and full-time college students (proof of full-time status must be submitted by students 18 and older). You can also buy a gift card that can be put towards a membership.
A Gift Certificate to Golden Puzzle Room
Test the wits of the whole family when you rent a room at Golden Puzzle Room. You can also buy a gift certificate for a group of kids ages 12 and up but an adult must be on the premises. If you aren’t ready for an in-person puzzle room experience yet, they also offer two games that you can do from home: Aliens and Venom.
Junior Fossil Finder Exploration Pack from Dinosaur Ridge
With the Junior Fossil Finder Exploration Pack, explorers ages 12 and under will enjoy the dig block with real fossils, fossil identification card, a magnifying lens, and a Junior Paleontologist book with activities to complete at Dinosaur Ridge. The pass also comes with an exhibit hall entry for one named child (12 and under) and one adult chaperone on each visit and one Junior Fossil Finder Membership Card.
